Structural Bodywork

This three-session series is designed to help you reconnect with your body. Through gentle, attentive work and posture guidance, we focus on the areas that hold tension, creating space for your body to move more freely and comfortably. Along the way, you’ll build awareness of how your body feels and moves, helping you feel lighter, balanced, and more at ease in your own body.

About ScarWork

Scars tell the story of our body’s healing. But while they are a natural response to injury or surgery, scar tissue often brings hidden challenges—tightness, restriction, or even a sense of disconnection in the body.

ScarWork, developed by Sharon Wheeler, is a gentle and highly effective approach to restoring comfort and ease around scar tissue. Instead of forcing or breaking down the tissue, this work invites the scar and surrounding areas to soften, integrate, and reconnect with the rest of the body.

Clients often notice changes such as:

  • Less pulling or tightness around the scar
  • Improved mobility and flexibility
  • A more natural look and feel of the scar
  • Relief from discomfort in surrounding tissues
  • A greater sense of wholeness and body awareness

Every scar is different, and so is every session. Whether your scar is from surgery, injury, or childbirth, ScarWork offers a safe and supportive way to help your body move with more freedom and ease.

Portrait of Kiki Ruan

About Kiki Ruan

Kiki Ruan is a passionate practitioner dedicated to helping clients feel better through Structural Bodywork and ScarWork. Her approach is gentle, effective, and client-centered.

I spent years walking through the rain, searching for relief — answers, healing, integration. What I found wasn’t just a method. It was a kind of shelter — a place where I felt seen, understood, and gently held.

Now, I offer that same shelter to others. Through Structural Integration and ScarWork, I hold space for bodies carrying stories — visible and invisible. This is what I call: Held.

FAQ

ScarWork

What is a Scar and Why Work on It?

A scar is your body’s natural way of healing after injury, surgery, or trauma. While it’s a sign of repair, scar tissue can sometimes feel tight, restricted, or disconnected from the rest of the body. Over time, it may pull on surrounding tissues, limiting movement or causing discomfort.

Working on scars isn’t just about their appearance, it’s about how they affect your body’s function and connection. Through gentle, therapeutic ScarWork, we help soften and release the tissue, restore movement, and bring awareness back to the area, so your body can move more freely and feel more integrated.

I don’t see any issues with my scar, why do I want to work on it?

Even if a scar looks fine on the outside, it can still create tension inside the body. This tension can pull on surrounding tissues and affect areas far from the scar, sometimes leading to discomfort, tightness, or restricted movement. Working on your scar helps release these hidden restrictions and restore balance throughout your body.

When is it safe to begin ScarWork?

ScarWork can begin once the scar is fully closed and free from inflammation. Starting at this stage ensures the tissue is ready for gentle work and optimal results.

Can ScarWork be effective on older scars?

Yes! ScarWork is remarkable in that it can gently and effectively address scars of any age.

Is the treatment painful?

ScarWork is gentle and therapeutic. You may feel occasional mild discomfort, but the focus is always on comfort while supporting healing and release.

Any preparation needed for ScarWork?

ScarWork is gentle and doesn’t require special preparation. Wearing comfortable clothing and coming with a relaxed mindset is all you need. For scars in sensitive areas, loose clothing that allows easy access can be helpful.

How many sessions will I need for my scar?

Every scar is unique, so the number of sessions can vary depending on factors like age, size, location, and tissue condition. We’ll work with you to find the right approach and pace for your body.

Is ScarWork effective on keloids?

Structural Bodywork

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a connective tissue that forms an interconnected web throughout the entire body. It is a continuous, three-dimensional network that surrounds, supports, and connects muscles, bones, organs, and nerves. It plays a crucial role in the structure, movement, and function of the body.

What is 3-series Structural Bodywork?

It is based on Anatomy Trains Structural Integration, broken down into 3 sessions addressing posture and alignment. Clients often feel genuinely balanced after 3 sessions.

  • Session 1 (90 mins): Body Reading + balancing the feet and pelvis.
  • Session 2 (90 mins): Balancing the diaphragm and opening the breath.
  • Session 3 (90 mins): Aligning the spine, head and neck.
What's the difference between Structural Bodywork and massage?

Unlike massages, clients are expected to be engaged in certain movements and may get up from the massage table as needed.

What to expect during the sessions?

Our bodies hold our emotions too — some clients might experience emotional reactions during or after the session.

How can I prepare for Structural Bodywork?

Clients are expected to bring/wear a sports bra (for women) and shorts for the treatment, keep hydrated, and maintain an open heart to receive.

My personal experience receiving the Structural Integration treatment

Through the treatment process, I learned more about my body than I had during a yoga teacher training course in 2022. I discovered tension I already knew and tension I didn't notice until being treated. It was fascinating to witness the changes in my body during the treatment and to integrate them into my life. I felt grounded, balanced, and uplifted — both physically and mentally.
